It's already September & Banned Books Week will be here before we know it! So what if I'm a little late posting this? It's only two years, right?
In 2013, my library went with the "mugshot" display for Banned Books Week.
In 2013, my library went with the "mugshot" display for Banned Books Week.
We have a long empty hallway in our library that was perfect for this display (since I don't have ANY bulletin boards, gah!). We encouraged patrons to take "mugshots" holding their favorite banned books and/or the sign that we made.
I also had a display where I wrapped some of the most popular banned or challenged books that we had in our library. It was a mystery as to what book was inside, but we did write what "violation" for which the book was banned or challenged.
2013 was a good year for Banned Books Week at my library. These displays were a lot of work, but so worth it because it got our patrons talking about censorship.
